Location, location, location! If you want to see the best Montana has to offer, stay here. The campground is situated in the heart of Ruby Valley, surrounded by stunning views of the Ruby, Tobacco Root and Gravelly mountain ranges. Historic Virginia City and Nevada City are within 8 miles.


Red Rock Mine and Garnet Gallery

Screen a bucket or screen all day. Along Montana Highway 287 between Alder and historic Virginia City we have set up water tanks and a shade building to screen for beautiful Montana garnets. Visitors are welcome to stop and screen or shop for the jewelry and minerals we sell.

Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park

Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park is 62 miles from our campground.  Explore one of the most decorated limestone caverns in North America at Montana's first and best-known state park. Hike and enjoy geologic wonders, events and programs at this scenic destination.

Wild Horse and Burro Program

Spanish Q Ranch is 24 miles from the campground and northwest of Ennis.  This facility has a herd of 710 wild horses that were relocated to the ranch as part of the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Program. The Spanish Q is the BLM’s first long-term holding facility in Montana. Mustang geldings are some of the horses here.

Laurin

The town was established around a trading post ran by the Frenchman, Jean Baptiste Laurin. Laurin's store prospered because of the supplies carried for the miners and the furs traded with the Indians. Laurin was sometimes called Cicero, or Lorrain.

Alder Gulch

They named the gulch after the alder trees lining the gulch. Alder was one of the great gold producers of all time. The site of the largest placer gold strike in world history. It produced $10,000,000.00 during the first year.

Vigilante Pond

Vigilante Kids Fishing Pond is 10 miles from the campground.  Special Regulations: open only to anglers 14 years old or younger. One rod per child. Location: West of Virginia City on Hwy 287. Fish Species: rainbow trout
